UPSC Result: Top 10 rank holders, who saw many failures but did not give up

Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has declared the results of Civil Services Examination 2020. The top 10 ranked candidates in this exam saw many difficulties, but did not give up, read their success stories.


    Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has declared the results of Civil Services Examination 2020. Of the total 761 candidates who cleared the exam, 545 are male and 216 are female. Let's know about the top 10 students who cleared this exam.


    Shubham Kumar

    24-year-old Shubham, who hails from Bihar's Katihar district, has topped the UPSC exam in his third attempt. He did his 10th from Vidya Vihar Residential School, Purnia and 12th from Chinmaya Vidyalaya Bokaro. Shubham completed his civil engineering from IIT Mumbai in the year 2018.

    He gave the first examination of UPSC in the year 2018, but he did not succeed. Then in 2019, he took the UPSC exam for the second time, in which he got 290th rank and was selected for the Indian Defense Accounts Service service.


    Jagriti Awasthi

    Jagriti Awasthi, a 24-year-old resident of Bhopal, has secured the second rank in UPSC 2020. She completed her schooling at Maharishi Vidya Mandir and holds a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (MANIT), Bhopal. Jagriti had selected Sociology as an optional subject for the UPSC exam.

    Ankita Jain, who secured 3rd rank in UPSC-2020 in her fourth attempt, from Agra (Uttar Pradesh), and is currently posted ad Audit and Accounts Services in Mumbai. Just a month before the UPSC Mains exam, she succumbed to COVID-19 but she didn't give up and kept striving for success.

    Ankita's husband, Abhinav Tyagi is an IPS officer in the Maharashtra cadre and her sister Vaishali has also secured 21st rank in the UPSC exam.

    Yash Jaluka, a resident of Jharia in Dhanbad district has secured the fourth position in the UPSC Civil Services Examination. Yash's father Manoj Jaluka has his own iron business and his elder brother Ankur runs a ration shop.

    Yash studied up to the 10th standard from Xavier's School. After completing his 12th from Bokaro, he moved to Delhi. He completed his B.Com and Master's degree from Delhi and then started preparing for UPSC.

    Mamta Yadav, 24, stood 5th in this exam. She is originally from Haryana but now lives in Delhi. Presently, she is undergoing training to become an Indian Railway Personnel Officer.

    But the insistence on fulfilling the dream of becoming an IAS officer finally not only made her successful in the UPSC exam, but he also secured 5th position across the country. Mamta has done her B.Sc from Hindu College, University of Delhi.

    Meera, who secured the sixth rank in the UPSC exam, is 27 years old. This was his fourth attempt and second interview. She missed out on just 12 points in her last attempt.

    When asked how would she like to serve her country? Meera said in an interview, “I have faith in the system. Whatever assignment I get, I will give my best in it." Meera has done her graduation in Mechanical Engineering from Government Engineering College, Thrissur, Kerala.

    Praveen Kumar, who secured the seventh rank, is 27 years old. Praveen, a resident of Jamui, Bihar, is currently working as an engineering officer in the Railways. His early education was from the Ramakrishna Vidyalaya located in Jasidih. Later he passed Matriculation and Inter examination from Patna and after completing his studies from Kanpur IIT, was preparing for UPSC for 2 years in Delhi. He achieved success in his second attempt.

    Karthik Nagjibhai, stood eighth in this examination. The 26-year-old, having succeeded in his third attempt, is already training as an IPS officer. Nagjibhai comes from a very wealthy family. His father runs an engineering college, a pharmacy institute, an MBA program, and a high school.

    Nagjibhai's parents also own Ribosome Research Pvt Ltd, which handles preclinical research for pharmaceuticals. He was not satisfied despite being from such an affluent family and already taking training as an IPS officer. He decided to make another attempt and finally succeeded.

    Apala, who secured 9th rank in the UPSC-2020 examination, is the great-granddaughter of famous litterateur Pt. Hazari Prasad Dwivedi. She lives in Noida with her father, retired colonel Amitabh Mishra, and mother, Dr. Alpana Mishra. She herself is a dentist in the army.

    Apala studied Dentist (BDS) from Army College of Dental Science Hyderabad in the year 2017. But her dream was something else and to fulfill her same dream, Apala started preparing for UPSC soon after completing BDS.

    Dr. Apala's schooling till the 10th was done from Ann Marie School in Dehradun. Thereafter, she studied till 12th from Delhi Public School, Rohini.

    Satyam Gandhi hails from Dighra village in the Samastipur district of Bihar. 22-year-old Satyam, who secured 10th rank, used to cycle 5 km every day to school. He topped his school in both class X and XII board examinations.

    He did his graduation in Political Science from Dyal Singh College, Delhi. Satyam took care of his own expenses by working as a freelance photographer, living in Delhi, and preparing for UPSC.
